Mustang Motorsport was invited to take part in the first ever 'Hot Tuner Shootout' run by MOTOR Magazine. We took our amazing Shelby GT500 Super Snake to Sydney for the shootout, and ran it through a series of tests up against some of the wildest tuners in the country. With a wide array of highly tuned vehicles included, the big Mustang acquitted herself beautifully.
With the Shelby GT500 Super Snake up against many small and nimble cars such as Porsches, Lancer Evos and WRXs, it was always going to be difficult to match them in the tight track tests. The Super Snake shone, though, when it came time for the dyno test, clocking 450.6kw at the rear wheels. It also excelled in the 0-400m v-max test.
Considering pretty much all the other vehicles were highly tuned versions of already renowned models, and the Shelby GT500 Super Snake was 'straight-out-of-the-box' (apart from the right hand drive conversion), finishing 9th overall was a great result.
Despite its size and weight, the Super Snake still gained praise from the testers for its handling, and not just the immense power. Warren Luff commented, "It's a fun car for the size and weight of it. You can light up the back-end whenever you want. It puts a smile on your face." John Bowe couldn't get enough of the power, enthusing, "What an awesome engine - it's just got so much power… It's got big balls, that's for sure!"
A big thanks to Motor Magazine for running the shootout, and also for providing the images and video footage.
