Targa High COuntry 2011 - Leg 2Click images to enlargeJust when you thought it was over, when we had the flat tyre and everyone had left us in the bush - without a phone signal! I thought I would climb to the top of a large mountain and, after walking 400 metres, there was no luck and still no phone signal. Then, heading back down the hill, the forest was so thick that I got lost and ended up further up the road from where I started! Anyway, the recovery sweep vehicle turned up as I left Graham to watch the Mustang while I went to get phone signal to call Matthew. The next problem there was that I had let  matt head home, figuring we would not need him after fitting new front tyres.

Finally I got signal and called Matt, getting him to pick up a tyre from Marty and bring it to us. At that point he was in Monbulk - 3 hours away. I mentioned that Marty was doing his job and would not be available, so he was prepared to come back. I said to wait and I will see what I can do. The guys in the recovery vehicle dropped me of at the Jamieson Brewery and Marty returned my call. He said he will see what he can do!!

He managed to get a jack and wheel brace from the Freestones crew - thank guys! - one drink later Marty turned up. I suggested Maudie wait and have a coffee while Marty and I went back to the Mustang (and Graham waiting patiently), got the flat tyre replaced and back on the road again just 2 hours behind the field! So Marty took off with Graham and I in hot pursuit. When we caught and intercepted him Graham asked what his excuse was for driving in such a manner, and he said. "I thought you were chasing me!" Thanks Marty for saving us and showing off our 'Chappie Stang'.

May God's blessing be with you all, thank you for following our racing,
Craig.
